Club volleyball is a competitive volleyball experience that takes place outside of the school season. Athletes train with a dedicated team and coaching staff and compete in tournaments throughout the season. Club volleyball provides significantly more training, competition, and development opportunities than most recreational programs.
Yes. School volleyball is connected to an athlete’s middle or high school and typically runs for a few months in the fall. Club volleyball is a separate, more extensive season that generally runs from November through spring or summer, depending on team level. Club athletes practice multiple times per week and compete in tournaments throughout the season.Club volleyball also provides athletes with access to experienced, volleyball-focused coaching. Club coaches typically have extensive backgrounds playing and/or coaching the sport and are able to provide more specialized technical and positional training. Because school athletic programs vary greatly in coaching experience, resources, and available training time, club volleyball can provide athletes with additional opportunities for focused development.Another major difference is the team environment. School teams are built from the athletes enrolled at a particular school, while club teams bring together athletes from different schools and communities. This allows athletes to train and compete alongside players of similar skill levels, goals, and competitive aspirations. Finally, club volleyball plays a significant role in college recruiting. Large club tournaments and National Qualifiers bring together hundreds of teams and are frequently attended by college coaches, giving athletes who want to continue playing after high school increased opportunities for exposure and recruitment.
Club volleyball age divisions are determined by USAV age definitions and may not always match an athlete's current grade. An easy tip is to ask how old your athlete will be on July 1st of the following year, that age will tell you what age group they can participate in. July/August birthdays may be able to play an age group lower than their grade. If you're unsure which age group to register for, contact us and we'll help make sure your athlete is in the correct division.
The biggest differences are season length, practice frequency, tournament strength, travel, and overall commitment. Our National teams have longer seasons and more travel. They also compete in higher level tournaments, while Regional teams primarily compete closer to home and have a shorter season.
